Jeffrey M. Keefer, Ph.D.

Jeffrey M. Keefer, Ph.D., is an open learning and nonprofit capacity building consultant, self-empowerment coach, educational researcher, and Wikimedian.

Jeffrey has worked in organizational and workplace learning, training and organizational development, operational program leadership, quality improvement, knowledge management, nonprofit board development, and research roles across his career in mission-aligned nonprofit, public service, and higher education organizational contexts. He has written and managed national and foundational grants that promote internal and external educational opportunities, all oriented toward establishing an organizational vision for expanding staff capacity to deliver goals and objectives within rapidly changing contexts and competitive landscapes.

He holds a Ph.D. in Educational Research (E-Research and Technology Enhanced Learning, Lancaster University, U.K.); graduate degrees in Adult and Organizational Learning (M.Ed., Columbia University), Business Education (M.A., New York University), English and American Literature (M.A., Hunter College), and Religious Studies (M.A., Institute of Religious Studies); and a an undergraduate degree in Philosophy (B.A., St. John’s University).

When not supporting individual and organizational growth or teaching his graduate courses, Jeffrey volunteers in various capacities — across the Wikimedia movement where he is on the Board of Wikimedia New York City, a member of the global 2030 Movement Strategy Capacity Building Working Group, and an active editor on Wikipedia; with the Mozilla Foundation where he serves as a mentor in the Open Leaders program; and as a member of the Board of Directors of Cherry Hill Seminary. He also writes poetry, engages in ongoing research within open education and liminality in learning experiences, reads across science fiction / fantasy / post-structuralism / actor-network theory, and is planning for an upcoming walk along the Camino de Santiago de Compostela.
